Pearls and their Mystique World

Welcome 2012, and what a start to the year it has been. Apologies for not updating my blog earlier, but we had our Annual Sale in January, and I was pretty tied up with that. I’d like to thank all our customers who visited us during our big event.

Have you wondered about the magic of pearls? What makes them special? I fell in love with pearls, not because I’m in the business, but because of the magic that it holds.
It is the only gem that is used exactly how it is produced. All other gems need cutting and polishing. Metals need melting and molding, but Pearls, they are used exactly how nature produced them. They are the only gem that is produced by a living thing. It is created after sitting 2-10 years in the belly of an Oyster or mollusk.

Although pearls are formed by living things and not mined like most gems, they still have just as many uses. These spectacular pearls can be strung into necklaces, fashioned into pendants or even placed in a simple ring. In fact, the way this prize of the sea is conceived only adds to its mystique. It can be said that the life that created the pearl lives on through its uniqueness, elegance and charm.

The pearl has symbolized the rare, the beautiful and the mesmerizing for thousands of years. Its beauty and value has been recorded in history from Lord Krishna to Cleopatra.
When you see a pearl you don’t just see the colour, you see radiance, you see depth. You see different hues. These are all created through the reflection of light through the different translucent layers of the pearls. It is this magical aspect that draws people to pearls.

The other beautiful thing about pearls is that these treasures come in asymmetrical shapes, which means that they are imperfect. No two pearls are the same. The closer to a perfect sphere that one can find, the more valuable they get. The value of a pearl increases multifold by the introduction of another pearl of similar characteristic. This uniqueness of each pearl makes it special unlike any other gem.

There are so many magical aspects of the pearl that make it special that I can go on forever. It is this magic that makes me love what I do. It is this magic that we want to share with everyone. It is this magic that inspires us to create more for our customers.
This actually leads me to another topic which I will post next time after doing some research. I’d love to share with you the history of pearls throughout the ages. Share information about its value and its life story.
